Arctic Curl
Place of Origin: UK
Date of Origin: 2008 Breed Registries: None yet Weight Range: Unknown Grooming: Unknown Fur Length: Semi-Longhaired (Special Characteristic Breed) Colors and Patterns: White, other patterns unknown Description: The Arctic Curl has curly fur similar to the Selkirk Rex, though it is shorter than the Turkish Angora's. Its tail is silky and flowing, and though so far it has only been bred white, other colors may be available too. Arctic Curl kittens are born with blue eyes and as they grow older, their eyes can change into amber, stay blue, or become odd-eyed. History: In the early 2000s British breeder Penny Odell, who bred Persians and Selkirk Rexes, had the idea to mate a Selkirk Rex and a Turkish Angora. The results were kittens with curly fur similar to the Selkirk Rex and semi-long hair. Odell is interested in creating a more Oriental shape to the ear and rounder eyes and is considering using the Balinese in further breeding. She also is concentrating on breeding the cats with white coats with blue eyes, though other breeders who have taken an interest in this new breed are thinking about trying to breed Arctic Curls with other colors. Personality/Temperament: The Arctic Curl combines the traits of the parent breeds, being very playful like the Turkish Angora while also retaining the independent and quiet nature of the Selkirk Rex. http://www.pets4homes.co.uk/pets4homes/home.nsf/breedinfo/arcticcurl |
